General Physics Lab: Virtual Pyromania: Statistics of Forest Fires

Goal and Purpose of this activity:  The goal of this experiment is to understand the propagation of forest fires by doing experiments with simulations of burning up forests (it would a very expensive experiment otherwise!)  You will have to interpret and apply your data to make good-judgment recommendations in managing a forest.  In doing so, the proper interpretation of statistics will be cultivated, which is the goal of this experiment.  You will learn how to interpret the concepts of probability, averages, maximum and minimum variation, and standard deviation.  These experiment utilize the Shodor Education Foundation, Inc.  simulations and educational tools.
